This course helps participants develop the art of conflict avoidance through practical techniques and sharpened instincts that can prevent dangerous situations before they arise. While many self-defense

programs focus on what to do after someone is in harm’s way, such as fighting, this training emphasizes being proactive. Whether attending a major event, navigating crowded spaces, dealing with an abrasive

coworker, or going about daily routines, participants will learn to recognize potential risks and take steps to avoid them.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize potential threats: Identify at least three behaviors or environmental conditions that may signal a potential crime or safety threat.

  • Practice situational awareness: Demonstrate a 360-degree assessment of their surroundings, identifying potential hazards, exits, and available sources of help.

  • Maintain a defensive approach: Distinguish between defensive and offensive responses in at least two scenarios and identify actions that prioritize personal safety.

  • Use conflict avoidance: Describe at least two strategies for avoiding or de-escalating a potentially unsafe interaction.

  • Create safe distance: Demonstrate at least two techniques for establishing or maintaining distance from a potential threat.
