This two-day interactive workshop will discuss preventative measures on how to keep safe during an assignment. The field of interpreting is unique in terms of personal safety due to working in various settings and hours. Regardless of the environment in which an interpreter works, it is important to have situational awareness. Topics include natural disasters, active shooter/s, deescalation, gang awareness, emergency terminology, situational awareness/survival skills and basic self-defense tips. Our goal is to increase interpreters’ personal safety with instructions on how to develop a safety plan for your everyday work assignments.
