Description
In this workshop, we will discuss different ASL signs regarding slangs, swear words, and sexual human behavior that are mostly used in the Deaf community. All the signs will be demonstrated to help interpreters and others understand what signs can be acceptable and unacceptable in the Deaf community.
Presenter: Tina Everhart
Tina Everhart is a Deaf educator who holds a Master’s in Sign Language Education from
Gallaudet University (2018) and Bachelor’s degree in Family Consumer Studies, also from Gallaudet University. She has worked at the Eastern NC School for the Deaf (ENCSD) in various roles and at the Wilson Regional and Resource Center for the deaf and Hard of Hearing providing advocacy and consultation for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals regarding ADA (American with Disabilities Act.) She worked with Vocational Rehab as a Casework Technician as well as providing Deaf Culture training to agencies and organizations. She has served on the faculty of Wilson Community College in both full-time and part-time capacity where she worked as an adjunct instructor while working as a full-time ASL Lecturer with the University of North Carolina Greensboro. She works as a Deaf mentor with the ELEVATE program founded by TIN (The Interpreter Network, Inc.) She provides mentoring to help interpreters who need to improve their signing and voicing interpreting skills in order to pass the EIPA test. She loves the challenge, equality, diversity, inclusion, and rewards of providing ASL instruction for ASL and interpreting students.
Tina is now a divorced woman after being married for 22 years. She currently lives in Greensboro with her boyfriend. She is a super mom of 2 fully grown kids, Isabella and Ian who are currently pursuing futures in Interpreting. She’s in the COMPASS program with Sorenson (Isabella) and an ASCE certified mechanic with Nissan Dealership (Ian.) During her free time, she enjoys going out with her girlfriends, reading books, hiking, camping, deep sea fishing, traveling to different beaches and other states.
