This workshop will provide participants with ASL financial vocabulary, how to appropriately use financial terms/vocabulary, and provide time to practice using such vocabulary.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Correctly recognize ASL vocabulary signs regarding income, purchasing, debt, contributions, bills, banking services, and methods of payment

  • Accurately produce at least 20 financial ASL vocabulary signs

  • Appropriately use at least 8 financial ASL signs in a brief financial scenario

Presenter: Russ Gribble

Russ Gribble joined the Gardner-Webb faculty in 2013 as an adjunct professor and in 2015 he became a full time Instructor of ASL. He is a graduate of Gardner-Webb University with a BA in Communication Studies and a minor in ASL. He attended Gallaudet University and earned a MA in Teaching Sign Language.

Prior to coming to GWU, Mr. Gribble worked at the SC School for the Deaf as a Residential Teacher and a Head Basketball Coach. He also taught ASL as an adjunct for North Greenville University and Converse University. His wife Jessica is also a GWU graduate and teaches science at the SCSDB. Together they have two girls. Mr. Gribble is active in the Deaf Ministry at First Baptist Church of Spartanburg and secretary for non-profit organization “Deaf Men with Jesusititude”. During his free time, he loves to travel, camp, hike, spend time with his ladies.
