This workshop will help medical interpreters to gain familiarity and comfort with how to approach ethical issues that arise during their work in the healthcare setting. Presenters will highlight the historical approaches to solve ethical dilemmas as well as a modern framework to approach medical ethical situations, giving perspective from both an interpreter and a medical professional. Concepts taught during this session include the ideas of autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice and how they relate to healthcare quandaries. Professional discussions will be facilitated to allow attendees to utilize best practices to reason through medical ethical scenarios.
