Interpreting is a fast-growing field in constant development and we need to ensure that we stay current and able to adapt to an evolving world. Participants will have opportunities to engage in hands-on activities to practice their interpreting skills for different body systems, its functions, everyday questions, and procedures/treatments. We will explore how healthcare literacy and access challenges in the Deaf population impact the interpreting process during any medical encounter. Ethics in health care interpreting will be addressed and discussed. Participants will leave with tools that will allow them to develop and apply strategies to real-life medical interpreting and situations.
