Call for Student Representatives

2026 NCRID Conference - Durham, NC
THANK YOU for your interest in volunteering for the 2026 NCRID conference. If you were an ITP student from 2024-current, please apply. We have backdated the time frame for eligibility since the last two conferences were virtual to give those students an opportunity to participate and "catch up".
*Priority will be given to applicants who have never served as a NCRID student representative, are available for the entire conference, are NC residents, and are NCRID Student Members.
The application includes the following parts:
A short essay about why you should be chosen
An uploaded video about yourself (signed or spoken, no more than 2 minutes)
Submit a letter of recommendation from the Deaf community (which could be from an ITP instructor, a colleague, a mentor, a Deaf community member, etc.)

Logistics
Arrival is Wednesday, June 24, 3:00pm and departure is Saturday, June 27 around 6:00pm.
The complete application is due by April 15, 2026. All pieces of the application must be received in order for it to be considered complete. No extensions will be granted.
You are responsible for your travel to and from the conference in Durham, NC.
NCRID will pay for your lodging Wed / Thur / Fri evenings as well as your conference registration. ($550 value)
You will share a hotel room with another Student Rep. The option to have a private room can be purchased for $250.00.
NCRID will provide meals from Wednesday dinner through Saturday lunch
Who can apply?
Any student currently majoring or minoring in an Interpreting degree program (including graduates from 2024–May 2026)
Priority will be given to students who have never served as a NCRID student representative, are available for the entire conference, NC residents, and NCRID Student Members.
Limited positions available. We are looking to approve 10-12

Scope of work:
Student representatives serve as assistants to the Conference Planning Committee during the conference. Duties and responsibilities include the following tasks/requirements:
check attendees in/out of breakouts for CEU tracking purposes
serve as presenter assistants
run errands
work in the hospitality room
Ability to work 10-12 hour days (able to stand/sit/walk for that length of time)
work cooperatively/follow directions as part of a team
be respectful to everyone working and attending conference
sign (or sim-com) at all times in public spaces regardless of skill
utilize your personal cell phone to communicate with the group via text/apps as well as take pictures of events
Student Reps will be responsible for:
Your own transportation
Some meals on your own
Paying the extra cost for the hotel if you want a private room. (approx. $250)
Appropriate attire. Details to be given upon acceptance.
Mandatory Student Rep Training Wednesday, June 24th, 2026 at 5:00pm. Please arrive between 3:00-4:00pm
NCRID will be responsible for:
Breakfast (Th/F/Sat), Fri/Sat lunch, and some other meals
Hotel accommodations with an assigned roommate
Complimentary conference registration
New Interpreter Crash Course on Wednesday night
Certificate of Service Completion from NCRID

The Crash Course will include information you need as a Conference Student Rep as well as a curated agenda for professional guidance and next steps after graduation to enter the field of interpreting. This is a private session for your group where our team of professionals dedicate this time to you for education and networking.
