Over a delicious cup of local coffee, tea or delicious food, participants (working interpreters only please) will discuss the topic of medical interpreting, specifically vocabulary related to the opioid crisis. Articles and list of words will be provided to attendees before meeting and then used to start the discussion. The group will then apply the discussion to real world experiences. Brainstorming sign choices or actions that would best fit the scenario.
Kathleen Speckhardt, NIC, graduated from the University of South Florida Interpreting Training Program in 2003. Since that time, she has enjoyed the different aspects of Interpreting, from all levels of educational interpreting to the various settings of freelance. Before moving to Asheville, Kathleen spent 6 years in the Florida Palm Beach County School District and served as a board member for the Florida Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. She currently works as the Interpreting Services Specialist with the NC Division of Services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing and is the Regional Representative for Land O’Sky Regional Committee of NCRID.
