This workshop will provide participants with insight into the benefits, process, and realities of working in tandem with Certified Deaf Interpreters. Topics will include: exploration of the benefits CDIs bring to both the interpreting team and Deaf consumers, different approaches that CDIs use in the interpreting work, the Certification process for CDIs, how to advocate for and/or obtain a CDI team, how to team effectively with a CDI, and the opportunity for actual practice working with a CDI in a simulated setting.
Donnie E. Dove, Jr., M.A., CDI
Donnie E. Dove, Jr. is a Deaf native signer and an active member of the Deaf community in Charlotte, NC. He attended Gallaudet University and earned a Bachelor’s in Recreational Studies. Later, he earned a Master’s in Student Development from American University. Donnie is currently supporting the ASL Lab and teaches classes along with the faculty members of the ASL and Interpreter Education Department at Central Piedmont Community College. Donnie is a Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) through the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) and is very active in the Interpreting community. With his wife, Alana, he also owns Creative Consultations, Inc. (www.creativeconsultations.net), a consulting company that provides training, coaching, consulting, and interpreting services.
