CDI - In an Educational Setting (.3 PS CEUs)

Workshop Description:  Participants will develop skills in using a CDI in an educational setting by participating in role playing scenarios with a deaf consumer, CDI, and hearing interpreter. By the end of the training, interpreters will gain knowledge of how to use a CDI and how to advocate for the use of a CDI.

Presenter: Karen Gabriel, received her CDI in 1999 after attending the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Interpreter Training Program. She worked at Gallaudet Interpreting Services and for several agencies in Maryland and D.C. areas from 1999 – 2009. Karen also worked as a dental hygienist for two deaf dentists in Maryland during that time. In 2010, Karen and her family moved to Florida and there she worked as a CDI in VR, medical, legal settings and frequently with Deaf Blind. She also taught many interpreting related workshops. Currently, she is working as a freelance Certified Deaf Interpreter along with teaching workshops. She is also mentoring several Deaf Interpreters in Training.
