There are many signs in American Sign Language that are signed differently depending on your geographic location in America. This workshop will be an open forum discussion of these various signs and presenter will elicit participation from audience members to share regional signs they have come across themselves and ask questions for regional signs they have seen, forgotten or are curious to learn more about.
Rachel Skipper graduated from Gardner-Webb in 2008 with a BA in American Sign Language and a minor in Interpreting. She started her interpreting career working at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools for 3 years. In the fall of 2011 she transitioned from Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools to Gaston County Schools; all the while working as a part time VI at Sorenson Communications. She received her NIC certification in 2011. She has most recently become the president of 5 Points NCRID, hoping to become more involved in the interpreting community. She feels lucky to work in a field that she loves with people she thinks are top notch.
